Roughly Calculate eGFR from Creatinine

📄 Description

🧠 Want a quick way to understand your kidney function? This short explains a simple back-of-the-envelope estimate for eGFR using your creatinine level.

Doctors often use a blood test called creatinine to estimate how well your kidneys are filtering waste. This estimate is called eGFR.

If you want a very quick, rough idea, you can use this simple formula:

For men:
eGFR ≈ (140 − age) ÷ creatinine

For women:
eGFR ≈ (140 − age) × 0.85 ÷ creatinine

This gives you a fast ballpark number.
As creatinine goes up, kidney function goes down.

But remember—this is only a rough estimate.
Doctors use more accurate formulas, like the CKD-EPI equation, and consider your full health picture.
